America...let's put an end to gun violence. If Sweden, France and England can bring gun violence down to almost non-existence, so can we. If America can put a man on the moon in 10 years, we can put an end to gun violence. All it takes is for those on both sides of the issue to relax and closely examine what's at stake. I honestly believe that those on the pro-gun side of the matter are too focused on keeping their guns to truly examine what's at stake.
Once both sides agree to step back and assess the situation in an open and honest way, we'll be on our way to solving this tragic problem. I am certain that neither side wants to see another school shooting or another dead child. This issue is far too serious to sit back and do nothing. Looking at the numbers, the evidence is so off the chart crazy that even the hardest, hardcore NRA fan would have to be given pause. Young people, old people, middle aged people...all gunned down in a hail of senseless violence! All for no reason. This epidemic has been around for centuries and it's only getting worse. And this is an epidemic we can cure! This is not like cancer or diabetes...WE HAVE THE CURE! It's called common sense and love for one another.
How any parent can look at the images and charts to the right and still sleep at night, is beyond me. If you can imagine, even for a moment, that it's your husband or wife on the stretcher...or your sister or brother on the ground...or your son or daughter in the tiny casket and still sleep like a baby every night, I have no words.
This situation is far beyond critical! It's gotten so now, most Americans just stare at the television screen and watch the carnage unmoved. Our pulse doesn't even change any more. We've become so desensitized to gun violence, that we hardly even raise an eyebrow when 19 people are shot at point-blank range by a deranged killer. We just look up at the horror and shake our heads. We watch men, women and children being stuffed into body-bags and carted away and we don't even blink an eye. Those people are our friends, associates and neighbors! We are all part of one big human family!
God forbid, but if another crazed shooting should ever take place again, try and imagine that the people on the screen, running and screaming and bleeding, are members of your immediate family...because I say they are! We are all Americans and we are all members of one big American Family!
If you are like me, you are completely and utterly disgusted by all the rampant gun violence! We have people being shot dead in church! In school! At colleges! In supermarket parking lots! This insanity must stop! And it must stop now. Before another parent has to be told that their child will not being coming home from school today. Before one more mother or father has to watch a tiny casket being lowered into the ground. We have to act and we have to act now!
Please...close your eyes for one moment and imagine your loved ones pinned down by rapid gunfire...Imagine your wife, your husband, your son or daughter...trapped and screaming... blood-soaked bodies scattered all around them...their heartbeats pounding at 7,000 beats per minute...terrified and screaming to God for help...but God's not answering...No one's answering. The only thing they hear above the screams are the sound of automatic weapons and the metal shells spilling to the floor. It's not like in the movies, where the casualties are small and the bad guys end up dead or in jail. In this "real life" scenario, it's your loved ones that end up dead. The maniac with the guns isn't killed. The maniac with the duffel bag filled with guns and ammo lives to stand trial. The only casualties are innocent casualties!
Right now...today...in the United States of America...anyone on the Anti-Terrorist No-Fly List who wants to buy a gun can buy one. They can't board a plane...but they can buy all the guns they want. Mentally unstable people can buy all the guns they want in America. In most states, the Gun Show Loophole makes it possible for criminals to purchase as many guns as they want. Guns are flooding our cities like an unholy plague. No ones standing up. No one's shouting with outrage. No ones stepping forward to say, "This is plain crazy and we're going to put an end to it!"
All we have now is a government bought and paid for by Gun Manufacturers, the NRA and their Lobbyists on one side and a bunch of people screaming about their Second Amendment rights on the other.

Courts can't wish the Second Amendment away, but they can construe it in a manner that works in today's society.
We have got to apply some common sense rules to guns. Period. No one wants to strip legal gun-owners of anything. If you have a primal love for guns...well, to each his own. But if you think the rest of us should be exposed to random killings in the street, just so you can feel macho...you're crazy. If you like to hunt or use your guns for personal protection...good for you, just don't stand in the way of common decency when it comes to protecting our children and preventing would-be terrorists, mentally-ill people, children and criminals from purchasing guns. The year is 2011, NOT 1791 and we're not going back!
This is not a win or lose game. This is a life or death situation. This is a problem that we can fix. Look at the charts. Look at the numbers. This plague is as horrific and catastrophic as heart disease or cancer! And we have the cure! We can cure this man-made plague right now, today! We can save the lives of 34 to 60 Americans a day by simply agreeing to use our common sense! That's it! Save 34 to 60 American lives each and every day...just by being a decent human being.
Let's all stand up and help put an end to all this needless, senseless, sad and sickening death! Call your representatives, tell your neighbors and friends! Call your local news channels and newspapers! Visit the Brady Campaign website and donate! Write a letter! Send an email! But in God's name don't let another day pass without doing something...Anything.
Other countries have cut gun violence out almost entirely...and we can do the same thing right here in America! Yes we can! WE CAN AND WE MUST! WE HAVE THE POWER TO STOP THE NEEDLESS DEATH OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS... WE CAN AND WE MUST. IT'S ONLY RIGHT.
Mark my words and heed this little piece of advice. Join me in this fight for common sense gun legislation and help create a stronger, safer, better future for our children. Do your part to end this slaughter of innocent Americans, all for the sake of selfishness and corporate greed. Stand up now and do what's right for all of us...or sit back and watch the same, sad scenario play out time and time again...over and over and over and over and over. Watch the next politically motivated attack or religious assassination or twisted school killing on the news and pray...pray it's not your loved ones in the crossfire.
